Hemp vs Cotton

1) Environment

• One acre of Hemp can produce 1500 pounds of fiber. Cotton on the other hand takes around 3 times the area to produce the same quality
• Hemp requires very little to no pesticide for cultivation, whereas Cotton requires around 16% of the world’s pesticide.

2) Durability

• Hemp is a strong and durable fabric, it lasts for 10 years without any wear and tear. And cotton is a soft material that usually breaks down within 6 to 12 months.
• Hemp is available in varied thicknesses ranging from 100 GSM to 400 GSM making it the ideal material choice for shoes, belts, bags,
• Cotton on the other hand is not that thick of a fabric.
• Hemp is extremely safe, it has inherent antibacterial properties and also protects from UV radiation. However, Cotton has no such qualities.

3) Softness

• Hemp fibers are far more durable and actually soften over time rather than disintegrating like cotton.
• Cotton fabric shrinks over time as it is washed and dried.

4) Water Usage

• Cotton requires 50% more water than Hemp for irrigation.
• Cotton needs water to grow, whereas Hemp can grow in areas where water is scarce
