Vegan and Sustainable Fabric Is the Way Forward

Vegan and Sustainable Fabric Is the Way Forward

With rising global warming and pollution caused by conventional fabrics and apparel, the textile industry needs cleaner and more responsible alternatives. At Weaving Vibes, this thought led us to begin our research into sustainable fabrics in early 2019.

It took time and effort to understand the raw material supply chain, production challenges and development process involved in sustainable fabric manufacturing. After a year of research and preparation, Weaving Vibes was launched in November 2020 with a range of sustainable fabrics for apparel, upholstery and luggage industries.

The pandemic created operational challenges, but we found ways to continue production and serve clients. Today, Weaving Vibes exports globally, and many international buyers specifically require certified GOTS hemp fabric, where the supply chain from fibre to garment is transparent and traceable.

Research and innovation approach in fabric design

The main focus at Weaving Vibes is innovation and development of creative plant-based and natural fabrics. We continue to experiment with new fibres, yarns, intricate weaves and design possibilities while using AZO-free dyes and responsible processes.

Our goal is not only to manufacture fabric but also to help brands create materials that are practical, premium and environmentally conscious.

Vegan printing and dyeing techniques

We have developed premium hemp fabrics using flower and leaf eco-dyeing and printing techniques. Along with eco-dyeing, we also offer natural dyeing facilities and other printing options based on client requirements.

Our finishing options include antibacterial finishes, antiviral finishes, water-resistant finishes and other value-added treatments that can support different product applications.

Sustainable fabric market size and future potential

The future of sustainable fabrics looks strong. As natural resources such as water become more limited, the textile industry needs to shift toward crops and materials that require fewer resources. Hemp is one such option because it uses significantly less water than cotton and offers strong textile performance.

Just as electric vehicles are becoming a cleaner alternative in transport, eco-friendly fabrics are becoming an important alternative in fashion, home textiles and lifestyle products. The demand for plant-based and sustainable fabrics is expected to grow as more brands and consumers become conscious of their choices.

Raw material challenges

One of the biggest challenges in sustainable fabric production is raw material availability. Hemp raw material prices are higher because farming is not yet as widespread as cotton. Acceptance of hemp cultivation in India is growing, but the supply of textile-grade hemp still needs to improve.

As hemp production increases, raw material availability can improve and prices may become more practical for manufacturers and brands.

Technology upgradation plan

We have upgraded our management and B2C processes with the help of software systems. We also accept orders through our website and social media platforms, making it easier for customers and brands to connect with us.

Along with this, we are working on strengthening our printing setup for digital prints and eco-printing, helping us offer more customised and creative sustainable fabric solutions.
